SUMMARY:Pet Care Crisis Appeal
DESCRIPTION:Australians will have the chance to ‘’pay it forward’’ next Wednesday\, September 2 when Lort Smith’s Pet Care Crisis Appeal goes live at 9am. \nAs living costs continue to rise\, more people are struggling to make ends meet. In the most extreme cases\, people face the harrowing decision between putting food on their family’s plate\, or paying for treatment when their pet falls ill or gets injured. \nWe believe every pet deserves the opportunity to access critical care in their time of need. Even when their person can’t afford it. That’s why we are calling on everyone to support the 24 hours only Pet Care Crisis Appeal this Wednesday September 2. \nLort Smith is Australia’s busiest not-for-profit animal hospital\, caring for over 15\,000 animals each year\, and we receive no ongoing government funding. \nThe money raised will support our urgent vet care service\, which ensures all pets who walk through our doors get access to the urgent care and treatment they need regardless of financial circumstances. \nAll donations will be doubled on this day with the money directed to vital pain relief\, life-saving diagnostics\, surgeries\, and even surgical equipment to be able to treat pets in critical condition. \nAll money will be used to help those experiencing financial hardship. \nThis is a chance for the community to ‘’pay it forward’’ when it comes to pet vet care. We hope Australia can join us and set tails wagging this Wednesday. \nAbout Lort Smith \nLort Smith is Australia’s largest charitable animal hospital\, helping pets access essential veterinary care and supporting the people who love them since 1936. From our North Melbourne and Campbellfield sites\, we provide accessible veterinary care\, adoption services and programs that protect the human–animal bond. With no government funding\, our work is made possible by community support and includes emergency pet boarding\, pet therapy and our Pets in Need fund for the pets of people experiencing serious financial hardships. \n

SUMMARY:The Magic Experiments
DESCRIPTION:Australia’s best magicians have taken over a 30 seat theatre in Northcote. Every Tuesday night\, they use it to try things nobody has seen before. \nThat is the entire idea behind The Magic Experiments. Brand new material\, performed live\, months before it reaches a festival stage or a television screen. If you have ever wanted to see where magic actually comes from\, this is it. \nThe line up may include Dom Chambers\, Lawrence Leung\, Simon Coronel and Vyom Sharma. Between them they have appeared on America’s Got Talent\, Australia’s Got Talent and at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. \nThe room holds 30 people. You are close enough to watch hands\, faces and angles that no audience at a large venue ever gets to see. Magic at this distance is a different experience entirely. There is nowhere for a magician to hide. \nSome of what you see will be extraordinary. Some of it will be the earliest version of something that goes on to headline internationally. All of it is new\, and none of it has been performed anywhere before. That combination is very hard to find anywhere else in the world. \nThe audience matters here more than at a normal show. Reactions and feedback in the room shape what survives and what gets cut. You are not watching a finished product\, you are watching it being built\, helping shape it. \nThe Laneway Theatre is a small independent space in Northcote with a deliberately low profile. The exact address is not published. Ticket holders receive full directions by email before the show. It sits within easy reach by tram or train\, and Northcote’s bars and restaurants are a short walk away if you want to make an evening of it. \nStrictly 15+.

DESCRIPTION:Join Paul Herbert and Sam Whitehead at this one-off workshop in Melbourne\, Victoria as they deliver what many say is a life changing experience. \nPaul is a member of the Warlpiri Aboriginal nation\, who are based in the Tanami desert of the Northern Territory. He returned to live on country in his early twenties. During his stay he completed all cultural obligations and was able to visit and work on many remote communities. Today he lives in Adelaide with his family where he has worked in forensic mental health for many years. He holds a Masters of Narrative Therapy and Community Work through Melbourne University and has spoken at local\, national and international events. His goal is to share his unique cultural knowledge and experience with others\, in a way that is currently not being done\, and that would make his family proud. \nSam Whitehead a proud Adnyamathanha woman with family ties from Nepabunna\, Far North Flinders Ranges in South Australia. She has lived and grown up on Kaurna Country in Adelaide\, South Australia. Her professional accomplishments include over 14 years in SA Health\, where she has completed her Diploma of Enrolled Nursing\, Advanced Enrolled Nurse Diploma and her Bachelors of Midwifery. Sam has completed an Aboriginal Leadership Academy Program\, Rainbow accreditation\, Mental Health First Aid for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and more. She has worked most recently within the Social and Emotional Wellbeing sector in management for Indigenous people over the past 3 years and found that there is an extensive gap. Her goal is to help others at a higher level to have a better Cultural knowledge\, understanding and connection to Culture through her skills and experience. She is professional and motivated to facilitate education and change\, not just Yarning but actions and following through with change and promoting Culturally appropriate and safe education. Sam admires to be a role model for family and community. \nJoin Paul and Sam in this workshop\, specifically designed to help professionals gain a deeper understanding of Aboriginal cultural values\, beliefs\, and practices\, and to provide practical tools for incorporating this knowledge into their professional practice. With the guidance of Paul and Sam’s extensive experience\, participants will explore topics such as communication\, respect\, and cultural protocols\, all within the context of Aboriginal cultural safety. The reason for this is that the workshop focusses on Aboriginal custom\, traditional practice and learning new skills\, techniques\, methods and strategies that can be applied around Australia with as many Aboriginal people as possible. SUMMARY:Inner Landscapes
DESCRIPTION:Mirroring the composer’s own inner turmoil\, Franz Schubert’s stirring String Quartet No. 14\, “Death and the Maiden” has long captured the imagination of listeners with its thrilling climaxes\, tortured freneticism and darkly romantic source material. \n  \nIn an expanded setting for chamber orchestra arranged by the formidable Gustav Mahler\, this seminal work leads a program that ventures into intimate inner worlds\, exploring shifting terrains of emotion and memory. \n  \nOpening with John Corigliano’s tender Soliloquy — an elegy of reflection and restraint\, carrying the weight of memory while seeking solace in beauty and stillness — this performance also includes the Australian premiere of Jessie Montgomery’s Grammy Award-winning Rounds for piano and strings\, starting with a single repeating idea that spirals into intricate motion. \n  \nIn a world premiere\, Australian composer Paul Stanhope brings lyrical depth and human vitality to his first Clarinet Concerto written in his trademark style of poetic narrative and musical invention.
