Lee Jones Quintet (UK) with Llewellyn Osborne
Lee Jones is a British jazz guitarist and composer, combining influences from modern jazz, fusion, blues, avant-garde and rock styles. Lee has regularly performed throughout the UK scene and recorded/performed/studied alongside Larry Coryell, Martin Taylor and Mike Stern. Since graduating from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Jazz Course in 2007, he has released seven solo albums with former WEA producer Simon Tittley and in 2019 completed a PhD in music composition at the University of Salford, Manchester. Lee is currently touring Australia and also active within music education/research. Lee released his latest solo guitar project, A World Away, in late 2023. Tonight, Lee returns to the JazzLab for an evening of high-energy, blues-inflected original material featuring very special guest Llewellyn Osborne on violin performing a diverse selection of original material.
Llewellyn is a classically trained jazz violinist, composer, and researcher. Elle has extensive performance experience working with professional Australian jazz musicians and her has been positively reviewed by preeminent New York jazz violinist, Christian Howes. Elle’s music is an homage to the sacred bond we share with animals. Her PhD project, supervised by Phil Slater, explores compositional approaches for preserving the Sacred – in Elle’s case, the dangerous, ecstatic and forlorn vibrancy of her companion dogs. Through composition and improvisation, these canine portraits journey through avant-garde, electronica, and experimental electric violin cadenza, to more conventional bossa and swing.
