Sierra Leone is one of the most dangerous places on earth to give birth. The maternal mortality rate is 717 deaths per 100,000 people giving birth, compared to 5 per 100,000 in Australia. 100 children per 1,000 live births won’t see their 5th birthday, compared to 3.8 per 1,000 in Australia.

This walk is titled the ‘First Breath Walk’. Each step you take is a step towards safe childbirth. Each step ensures that Sierra Leonean babies have the opportunity to take that precious first breath.

Our walk will finish in Middle Brighton. At its completion you can swim, get some lunch, & feel proud that your efforts & the funds you raised along the way have supported life-saving care. We do not have signage or support people stationed along the track to assist with directions, however you are welcome to run the 13km under your own direction.

Don’t forget your Myki, so you can travel home from Middle Brighton train station. Can’t wait to see you there!
